When betting sports, I do look at certain angles like sandwich games, look-aheads, revenge, bounce-backs, and let-down situations. These can all play a part in a team’s performance and more importantly on covering the spread. This specific matchup has a few of these angles my friends.
Boise State, which over the last two decades own one of the best home records in college football, didn’t just lose on the blue carpet, they were humiliated by BYU last week. I had to look it up and then double-check it. That November 6 home loss was the worst hey had suffered since 1996. Which, by the way, was the Broncos first year in an FBS program.
As of penning this article, Boise State head coach, Bryan Harsin is keeping it close to the vest about naming his starting quarterback here. Veteran gunslinger, Hank Bechmeier or even USC-transfer, Jack Sears is preferred to take the helm. However, even if 3rd-stringer, Cade Fennegan is under center, the young backup has had a full week to prep for this matchup. And folks, CSU certainly isn’t BYU.
Colorado State got torched in their season-opener, 38-17 to Fresno State. They then bounced back to surprise Wyoming last week. I think you’re going to see this team come back down to earth in a big let-down spot here. The Rams possess an offense that solely revolves around the passing game. Well, sports fans, the Broncos once again own and incredible secondary made up of talented playmakers. They will contain CSU in the air and get some turnovers in the process.
I went back nine years and Boise State has taken nine in a row over Colorado State SU, going 6-3 ATS. The Rams fall flat after winning as they are just 3-8 ATS L11 games played following a SU win. The Broncos are money-makers going 5-1 ATS L6 in conference play, 5-1 ATS L6 as a favorite, 6-1 ATS L7 as a home favorite, and 6-2 ATS L8 overall at home.
BSU will bounce back here with a vengeance and redeem themselves and give their loyal fans something to cheer about. I see numbers of -13.5 and -14 here. I would prefer getting the -13.5 folks. Be smart. If and when the quarterback is named and it is Bachmeier or Sears, the line will rise. So, get in on it now.
