Former Mountaineer coach Bill Stewart died of an apparent heart attack. Stewart was golfing with former West Virginia athletic director Eddie Pastilong on Monday when he collapsed. He was taken to Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital. Stewart was 59.
Air Force running back Asher Clark has been dismissed from the academy after reports surfaced he was involved in an investigation of illegal drug use. The Colorado Springs Gazette reported that under the Privacy Act the academy was unable to divulge names but Clark is among 31 cadets being probed. The unfortunate thing is that the dismissal comes one week before graduation.
Old Dominion will be leaving the Colonial Athletic Association. They will join Conference USA in 2013.
Notre Dame linebacker Carlo Calabrese has been charged with a misdemeanor count of intimidation. Calabrese allegedly made threatening remarks to police after QB Tommy Rees was arrested naer an off campus party. Police said when Rees was taken away Calabrese told an officer: "My people will get you." The officer asked if Calabrese was threatening him and Calabrese repeated: "My people will get you."
Clemson RB Mike Bellamy has been ruled academically ineligible. The running back's career is over at Clemson and he will now be force to transfer to a junior college. Bellamy was ranked as the 5th best running back in the class of 2011 by MaxPreps and given a 5 star rating. Freshman RB Zac Brooks could see increased playing time this year with senior Andre Ellington coming off of minor ankle surgery.
Tate Forcier, the former Michigan QB has signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League. "I'm so excited and happy to have this chance after everything I've gone through," said Forcier.
