Syracuse Orange: With Coach Jim Boeheim's 900th career win in his back pocket, the Orange (10-0 straight-up, 6-1 against the spread) head to their home away from home Madison Square Garden for the Gotham Classic vs. Temple. Win No. 900 vs. Detroit on Monday was not without some tense moments at the end as Syracuse let a 22-point lead evaporate in the 72-68 final. The Orange didn't have a field goal in the final 5½ minutes with point guard Michael Carter-Williams netting Syracuse's final five points of the game from the charity stripe. The Orange were favored by 18½ and suffered their first pointspread defeat after starting the season with six covers. Ranked third in the latest polls, Syracuse is putting up some gaudy numbers on the offensive end with 83.4 points per game (3rd) and 18.6 assists per contest (5th). The Orange also sit sixth in the country in rebounding (44.5 rebounds per game) and third in defensive field-goal percentage (34.5 percent).

Temple Owls: Wednesday's 72-62 upset defeat at the hands of Canisius no doubt found the Owls (8-2 SU, 3-5 ATS) looking ahead to this matchup. Temple was laying 11½ in the contest and went stone-cold from 3-point range where the Owls netted just four of their 28 attempts. Jake O'Brien came off the bench to sink three of those heaves from beyond the arc while starters Scootie Randall and Khalif Wyatt combined to sink just 1-of-18. The setback was also Temple's third consecutive loss at the college basketball betting window, a string that began with a 90-77 defeat as a 7½-point underdog vs. Duke on Nov. 8. The last time the Owls both won and covered a game was Dec. 5 at Villanova in a 76-61 victory while laying four. Three Owls are averaging double digits on the scoring end, led by Wyatt's 14.5 ppg. Randall is next (13.7 ppg) while also leading Temple in rebounding (7.5 rpg), and Anthony Lee rounds out the trio at 10.4 ppg.
