Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Mark Ellis had emergency surgery on his left leg last night after he was upended by St. Louis' Tyler Greene. Ellis was taking completing a force-out at second base when Greene made a hard but clean slide into him causing severe pain and pressure on his lower leg.He was placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Marlins placed OF Emilio Bonifacio on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 19, with a sprained left thumb. It's still not clear what the MRI results are, but obviously the injury is bad enough to keep Bonifacio out for at least a couple weeks. Chris Coghlan has been recalled, but Bryan Petersen figures to benefit the most in terms of increased playing time while Bonifacio is out.
