Don Best’s betting expert Joe D’Amico explains how you can make money betting on the MAC…
Just because the MAC isn’t a Power-Five conference doesn’t mean there isn’t money to be made in it. There is gold in them thar hills.
We see a ton of MAC games on Wednesday’s, Thursday’s, and Friday’s but, don’t think that these contests are just fillers. Year in and year out, we experience some amazing football in this conference. We also have amazing investment opportunities as well. There is a huge disparity between the top and the bottom of this league.

Buffalo is the class of the conference and returns a lot of experience. They are the team to beat. The Bulls will once again have an explosive ground assault and probably the best overall defense in the MAC. You may lay a bit of wood with them, especially in Week 1, but this is a team that covered all three contests a season ago as a double-digit fav and they will cover those big numbers again.
Ohio is highly-touted but lost an enormous amount of role players and playmakers, including seven all-conference selections. They are good, but for me, a go against in the role of a favorite. Especially in the first several outings of 2020.
Miami Ohio won the MAC Championship game last year and is just about the only team in the conference with the talent to challenge Buffalo in the East. The Redhawks offer true value when they come in as an underdog for sure. I will wait and see just how good they are before I lay points with them though.
Toledo is 6-1 to take the conference. However, they are point spread poison, only covering one of their final seven games a season ago. A sure play against for me.
WMU rounds out the cream of the conference crop. They are the best MAC team in the trenches on both sides of the ball, which makes them very dangerous.
CMU, Ball State, and Kent State all lost too many players to make an informed judgement on just yet. So, I would tread lightly with these three conference reps for now.
The bottom four teams in the MAC: NIU, EMU, Akron, and Bowling Green, my friends, I would be surprised if they combined to win 10 games this season. Unless the lines are better than two touchdowns in their games, you can make a killing going against them.
Once again, don’t be afraid of or even overlook the MAC because the conference isn’t as popular as other leagues. Remember this, a public bus gets you the same places a Lamborghini does.
