10:02 - Dodgers say Vin Scully hospitalized, doing well Dodgers say Vin Scully hospitalized, doing wellDodgers Hall of Fame announcer Vin Scully was admitted to a hospital Thursday night after he got up from bed too quickly, fell and bumped his head.
Scully, 82, was taken from his Hidden Hills home to West Hills Hospital and Medical Center as a precaution and would stay overnight for observation, Dodgers spokesman Josh Rawitch said.
Rawitch said he spoke with Scully on Thursday night and the announcer told him he's doing well.
Scully's 59-year tenure with the Dodgers is the longest of any current sports broadcaster with the same team. He is scheduled to broadcast all of the Dodgers' home games and their road games against National League West and American League West opponents. |

11:25 - Rangers' Washington tested positive for cocaine Rangers' Washington tested positive for cocaineRangers manager Ron Washington tested positive for cocaine in July of 2009, SI.com reports. According to the report, Washington was subjected to increased drug testing after his positive test. He has passed all of the subsequent tests.
"I did make a mistake and I regret that I did it," Washington told SI.com. "I am really embarrassed and I am really sorry." Washington reportedly called the commissioner's office before the test results were revealed and warned MLB officials that the results might come back positive.
"Despite the disappointment, we felt that supporting Ron was the right thing to do," Texas general manager Jon Daniels told SI.com. "We asked a lot of questions and worked through Major League Baseball's program, where Ron had appropriate consultation, support and testing. But for all the reasons we hired him in the first place, we felt and continued to feel that he's the right guy to lead the club. He made a significant mistake. He also admitted to it and took steps to ensure that it won't happen again." |
10:59 - OF Elijah Dukes released by Washington Nationals OF Elijah Dukes released by Washington NationalsOutfielder Elijah Dukes) was released by the Washington Nationals on Wednesday, a sudden move with 2 1/2 weeks left in spring training.
The 25-year-old Dukes had been expected to be Washington's starting right fielder, and the Nationals announced the transaction with a terse, two-sentence press release.
Wednesday was the last day the Nationals could put him on waivers and pay him 30 days' termination pay at the minor league rate of his split contract instead of 45 days at the major league rate. So he is owed a little under $41,000, instead of about $109,000, which he would have been due had he been released later in spring training. |

15:04 - Davis remembered during Dodger Stadium service Davis remembered during Dodger Stadium serviceFormer Los Angeles Dodgers center fielder Willie Davis was remembered as an electrifying on-field presence and a larger-than-life personality in a memorial service Tuesday at Dodger Stadium.
"I like to believe the president saw the news and felt a little sadness," his daughter, Kim, said in an hour-long service, "as did the mailman, the man at the doughnut shop, the drug addict downtown, and the 45-year-old who remembers the lightning speed of the 3 Dog."
Davis, 69, spent 14 of his 18 major-league seasons with the Dodgers, and was nicknamed "3 Dog" because of his greyhound-like speed, or his love of the dog track in spring training, depending on the telling.
He was part of two championship teams, won three Gold Gloves and remains the franchise leader in hits (2,091), extra-base hits (585), at-bats (7,495), runs (1,004), triples (110) and total bases (3,094). He was found dead in his Burbank home on March 9. |

09:26 - Marlins among teams checking out Mike Lowell Marlins among teams checking out Mike LowellScouts from the Marlins and other teams watched Red Sox infielder Mike Lowell make his spring training debut Monday, The Miami Herald reports.
Lowell played first base Monday and went 1-for-2 at the plate against the Orioles.
The Herald reports the Marlins may be in the market for a corner infielder, given their uncertainty at first and third base. Rookies Logan Morrison and Gaby Sanchez are competing at first, but if neither one seizes the opportunity, Florida might shift third baseman Jorge Cantu to first. That would leave a hole at third, which the 36-year-old Lowell could fill. |
