With the NHL’s all-star festivities scheduled for this weekend, 26 of the league’s 30 teams are in action this Tuesday night in what will be their final game until action resumes after the all-star break next week. Fresh off of an exciting weekend of hockey, the Boston Bruins highlight Tuesday’s loaded NHL betting card.
After earning three of a possible four points losing to the New York Rangers in overtime Saturday and beating the Philadelphia Flyers in a shootout Sunday, the Bruins (31-13-2) will play their third game in four nights Tuesday night on the road against the Washington Capitals (25-19-3). Tuesday night’s matchup starts at 7:00 p.m. (ET) and pits the Eastern Conference’s best road team (Boston is 15-6-0 on the road this season) against the conference’s best home team (Washington is 17-6-1 at home).
The Bruins are battling the New York Rangers for the top spot in the conference while the Capitals are in a struggle with the Florida Panthers for the first place in the Southeast Division.
Hoping to still hold on to the top spot in the Southeast Division heading into the break, the Florida Panthers (22-15-10) host the Philadelphia Flyers Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. (ET). Like Boston, Philadelphia (28-14-5) has been a strong road team this season at 17-7-2, while Florida hasn’t played particularly well at home going just 11-5-6 (11-11 in moneyline betting).
The Panthers have won just two games in the month of January (2-3-3) but has forced overtime in three of their last four games.
Out West, just three nights after meeting in Music City, the Nashville Predators and the Chicago Blackhawks meet again in Chicago. Nashville (28-16-4) won Saturday night’s game 5-2 as a 120 home favorite, handing the Blackhawks (29-14-6) their first regulation loss in eight games as they went 5-0-2 in their previous seven games. Nashville has been playing great hockey of late with a 10-2-0 record in its last 12 games.
Currently separated by just four points in the Western Conference standings, Tuesday’s game at 8:30 p.m. (ET) could have playoff seeding implications down the stretch. The Predators have a game Monday night at home against Columbus, so factor travel and potential fatigue into this one.
Two of the NHL’s hottest teams collide in an interconference battle Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m. (ET) when the Pittsburgh Penguins head to St. Louis to take on the Blues. Pittsburgh (27-17-4) has won six straight games after losing its previous six games and St. Louis is 8-0-1 in the month of January.
Like Nashville, St. Louis (29-12-6) could be dealing with fatigue Tuesday night as they play Monday night in an important division rivalry game on the road against the Detroit Red Wings. That said, the Blues fatigue may be offset by their fantastic home-ice advantage; the Blues are 21-3-3 at home this season while Pittsburgh is a modest 13-10-2 on the road.
