Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles (3-4 straight-up, 1-5-1 against the spread) are reeling with three straight losses after a 30-17 home defeat to Atlanta last week. Coach Andy Reid is on the hottest seat imaginable, but he has decided to stay with the struggling Michael Vick at quarterback instead of switching to rookie Nick Foles. Vick hasn’t been helped by running back LeSean McCoy the last three games (40 YPG, 2.6 per carry) with the offensive line the big problem. The Eagles defense hasn’t played bad overall at 339.6 YPG (ranked 12th), but the scoring offense (17.1 PPG) is tied for 28th with the number even worse in the three road games (12.3 PPG, the "under" 3-0).
New Orleans Saints: The Saints (2-5 SU, 3-4 ATS) were thought to be buoyed last week by the return of assistant head coach Joe Vitt after his six-game suspension, but they laid an egg in a Sunday night loss (34-14) at Denver. Vitt is the head man going forward with Sean Payton out for the year, but it will be hard to fix the NFL’s worst defense (a whopping 474.7 YPG). The offense can put up points (27.1 PPG, ranked sixth), thanks almost entirely to Drew Brees and the passing game. The running attack is providing almost no balance (72.6 YPG, last in NFL) and will be without Darren Sproles, who underwent hand surgery and could miss multiple weeks (click to check latest NFL injury report). The "over" is 5-2 for the Saints this year and 10-2 in their last 12 overall even after going "under" last week. The last five matchups between New Orleans and Philly have also gone "over" with the latest coming in 2009.
