NFL Picks For Week 5

By: Don Best Staff | Friday, October 5, 2012

The NFL schedule begins to slack off a bit with byes for four squads on the Week 5 slate.  But there are no bye weeks at Don Best with picks and quick analysis for six key contests this Sunday.

One of four interconference matchups tackled by the experts finds the Green Bay Packers in Indianapolis to face the Colts.  Aaron Rodgers and the Pack are looking to climb above .500 for the first time this year, and the NFL betting lines suggest they will with Green Bay laying seven points.  The clubs have split their last four meetings with the 'over' cashing each time.

Eli Manning and the New York Giants are also hoping to get back over .500 when they host the winless Cleveland Browns.  New York opened as double-digit chalk before the spread was bet down to 8½.  Sunday afternoon's total sits at 44 points.

Off to a surprising 3-1 start and tied with the Bears at the top of the NFC North, the Minnesota Vikings are 5½-point favorites for their tussle with the Tennessee Titans.  This AFC-NFC battle has gone to the Vikes five of the last six meetings, while the 'over' has prevailed in two of the last three clashes in Minnesota.

A couple of AFC rivals meet in Cincinnati where the Bengals get a visit from the Miami Dolphins.  Cincy has reeled off three straight wins after being manhandled by the Ravens in the season opener, and the Bengals are 3-point favorites to make it four straight dubyas.

Speaking of Baltimore, the Ravens are at Arrowhead Stadium for an early Sunday kickoff against the Kansas City Chiefs.  Baltimore lost its only road game so far (Week 2 at Philadelphia) and is a solid 6-point favorite in KC.  The Ravens have won the last three times they've faced the Chiefs, most recently by a 30-7 count in Jan. 2011 at home in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.

Last but not least, the Chicago Bears head to Florida to tangle with the Jacksonville Jaguars in one of the late contests on Sunday.  The clubs have split their last four get-togethers with Chicago covering three of the matchups.
