Las Vegas Hilton SuperContest Week 14 Update

By: Willie Bee | Friday, December 16, 2011

The NFL season is winding down, and the Green Bay Packers are just three wins away from a perfect regular season.  If they're successful, it could leave red ink to deal with for the sports books according to Jay Kornegay of the Las Vegas Hilton.

A Green Bay perfect mark opened at +550 at the Hilton, with the 'no' originally priced at -700.

"As usual, these props are not generally good for the house because most of this is one-sided action," Kornegay noted. "You get a lot of accumulation of small bets on the 'yes,' which we did in this case."

The Packers currently stand 13-0 and the 'yes' prop has been driven down to -160.  Green Bay will be in Kansas City this Sunday looking to move to 14-0, and that contest will be part of the morning viewing action at the Hilton's Football Central.

Green Bay was one of the few favorites in Week 14 to cover in a 46-16 thrashing of the Oakland Raiders as 11-point chalk.  The big week for the underdogs helped tighten up the standings in the Las Vegas Hilton SuperContest where the top 10 now sit just 5.5 points apart.  Sans Souci enjoyed a 4-1 Week 14 card to close the gap on leader Pagermager, with The Chosen 1 continuing to charge up the ranks to fourth.

Two 'dogs to grab the cover to the delight of a majority of SuperContest players were the Indianapolis Colts and New York Giants.  Indy backers were getting 16½ on the road at Baltimore, and a touchdown as the clock expired cashed their picks in the 24-10 Ravens victory.  It was the second consecutive week for the Colts to just sneak a late cover in.

The Giants were getting 3½ on the road in Dallas and appeared headed to overtime against the Cowboys in what had been a back-and-forth affair in the Sunday night contest.  But New York defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul capped a great game by blocking the kick to give the G-Men a 37-34 triumph, a winner for 164 contestants while 54 Dallas backers suffered a setback.

One underdog that was a popular pick in the Hilton SuperContest and failed against the spread was Tennessee.  The Titans were +3½ at home to the New Orleans Saints and driving near the end of the game for the possible outright win, but the Saints held on for the 22-17 victory.  Tennessee backers outnumbered New Orleans' in the week's most popular game in the contest, 136-88.

The most lopsided game among entries was Detroit -7 at home vs. Minnesota with more than 5:1 of the picks behind the Lions (120-22).  Thanks to early Vikings turnovers, Detroit built a 21-0 lead and seemed to be on its way to an easy cover.  Joe Webb relieved Minnesota starter Christian Ponder at quarterback to ignite just enough offense for the Vikings to pull within six at the end as the Lions held on for a 34-28 win.
