Caesars Palace Sports Book Weekly Update

By: Ryan Mercier | Thursday, February 2, 2012

Todd Fuhrman, Caesars Palace Senior Race and Sports Book Analyst, weighs in on Super Bowl XLVI at DonBest.com.

The betting interest is picking up and will, of course, skyrocket throughout the weekend.

Caesars opened their number with the New England Patriots -3½ but that only lasted about 15 minutes. Currently on the Don Best odds screen, Caesars has the Pats favored by a field goal. While around it appears that the Giants are getting a majority of the attention, Fuhrman does note that they are now getting decent two-way action since moving the number to three.

If you have followed the coverage of the Super Bowl, you know that countless ex-players and analysts feel that the wrong team is favored. To rebut that, Fuhrman says, “I tend to believe we do things the right way out here and stay in business for a reason.”

With the big game around the corner, that means it is prop bet season. The most popular involve specific players and there are a ton of big names in this game such as Tom Brady, Eli Manning, Victor Cruz, Wes Welker, etc. Buyer beware, well-known names get their numbers shaded a little higher than they should be.

Also, if a bettor does side with the opinion that the G-Men should actually be the favorite in this game, one can back that up with a wager on alternate point spreads. New York -3½ is listed at +190 at Caesars.

There are plenty more in-depth propositions out there including cross-sport wagers with the NBA, NHL, and college basketball.

Taking a look at the total for the game, 55½  had been seen as an opener but right now it sits at 54. Some great homework from Don Best’s Kenny White reveals that indoor Super Bowls average just 41 points while outdoor venues average 48. Sunday’s battle will be inside the comfy confines of Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Technically, the Patriots are averaging 34 points per game in the postseason and the Giants average 27. Remember, the Pats scored a whopping 45 in their first playoff game and are coming off of a 23 point performance. Also, New York put up 37 in the Divisional Round but they were last seen scoring 20 in overtime.
