Brian Blessing (@BrianBlessing) and Todd Fuhrman (@ToddFuhrman) are back in the Don Best war room with the Monday Market Report, and this week's edition starts in the ACC where Clemson is laying a huge number at home against Maryland.
College football oddsmakers sent the Tigers out as 28-point favorites vs. the Terps, and bettors didn't think that was a big enough spread with an early push up to -31 (click to check updated college football odds). Maryland enters the game off its third consecutive loss, a 33-13 setback at home to Georgia Tech in which linebacker Shawn Petty performed at quarterback for the injury-depleted Terps.
Clemson is looking to keep pace with Florida State in the ACC's Atlantic division, and Fuhrman believes the Tigers are going to have a field day vs. Maryland.
Out in the Pac-12, Washington opened as a 2-point favorite vs. Utah, but the number has dropped to -1½ on the Don Best Real-Time Odds screen in early trading. This appears to be a sharp move away from the Huskies who will be tested in the trenches by Utah.
Stanford is hosting Oregon State and the Cardinal started as 6½-point chalk before bettors pushed it down to 4½. Blessing notes the Beavers got lucky last week against an Arizona State team that couldn't hold an early lead at Oregon State. Fuhrman is also a bit surprised by the early movement in favor of the Beavers, and thinks the best play in this game could be on the "under" with Stanford struggling to score points.
Skipping to the SEC, LSU comes off a tough loss to Alabama last Saturday night and will host Mississippi State this week. The Tigers went off as 15-point favorites before the number adjusted down to -13½. The Bulldogs were whipped by Texas A&M, and could be undervalued for this game according to Fuhrman.
Week 10 NFL action includes Denver making a long trek to Carolina to meet the Panthers. The Broncos started at -5½ before the spread dipped to -3½ for their second straight road trip. Denver topped the Bengals in Cincinnati last week, 31-23, but Fuhrman still isn't sold on the Broncos being able to consistently cover spreads on the road, giving Cam Newton and the Panthers some value in this contest.
