College Football Picks For Saturday September 29

By: Don Best Staff | Thursday, September 27, 2012

The Don Best gang is back at it this week as Brian Blessing is joined by Kenny White and Todd Fuhrman to take a look at the fifth week of the college football season with previews and picks for a half-dozen contests on Saturday's slate.

Saturday's tour starts at Virginia Tech where the Hokies are 6½-point favorites over the Cincinnati Bearcats.  Va Tech is ranked 23rd on the latest Don Best Linemakers Poll and will be looking for the third straight win vs. Cincinnati.

A couple of Big 12 matches pitting potent offenses are on the docket, starting with the Texas Longhorns visiting the Oklahoma State Cowboys.  The visiting 'Horns are 2-point favorites after opening as 2-point 'dogs, and will be facing the top-rated offense in the country in Oklahoma State.  The Cowboys have won the last two meetings, both taking place in Austin, but are just 1-7 when Texas comes to Stillwater.

The highest total on Saturday's NCAA betting card can be found in the noon kickoff at Morgantown where the West Virginia Mountaineers make their Big 12 debut vs. the Baylor Bears.  Total bettors are looking at an 81½-point scoreboard hurdle, and West Virginia is favored by 11½.

The Big Ten also has a couple of huge tilts this week, beginning with the Ohio State Buckeyes making the journey to East Lansing to square off with the Michigan State Spartans.  This is the first road game for the Buckeyes under new head coach Urban Meyer, and they are short 2½ underdogs against the Spartans.

Wisconsin and Nebraska battle under the lights in Lincoln where the Cornhuskers are strong 11½-point chalk.  Nebraska made its Big Ten debut last year in Madison where the Badgers embarrassed the 'Huskers, 48-17.

A late clash on Saturday finds the Oregon State Beavers at the Arizona Wildcats in a Pac-12 matchup.  The Beavers have won the last two meetings while covering five of the last six; oddsmakers have installed the 'Cats as small home favorites of 2½ with a 60½-point total.
