North Carolina Tar Heels: Defense was not present when the Tar Heels (6-4 straight-up, 5-5 against the spread) dropped a 68-50 decision to Georgia Tech last Saturday in Chapel Hill. The Yellow Jackets passed for more than 200 yards for only the second time this season and also ran up 380 yards on the ground as 8½-point road underdogs. The back-&-forth affair concluded with over 1,070 yards of offense, and the game marked the third consecutive "over" for UNC, which is 7-2 to the high side this season. North Carolina has now surrendered 136 points in its last three games after allowing 121 in the first seven combined. Sophomore tailback Giovani Bernard topped the 1,000-yard rushing plateau in the loss, accomplishing the feat despite missing two games earlier in the season. The Heels have won and covered the last two collisions with UVA after the Cavs won and covered the previous four.
Virginia Cavaliers: A second straight win for the Cavs (4-6, SU, 1-9 ATS) came in one of the most exciting finishes this year. Virginia scored the game-winning TD with six seconds left to pull off the 41-40 win over the Miami Hurricanes, who were getting two from the college football oddsmakers in the contest. Junior quarterback Michael Rocco had his best game of the season in the win, completing 29-of-37 passes for 300 yards and four touchdowns. Darius Jennings hauled in two of the scoring aerials, and he has caught three TD passes among his 13 receptions in the last two games. One of the best fades this season, the Cavaliers have covered just one contest dating back to last year's regular-season finale, and they are 0-6 ATS at home this campaign. Virginia has won seven of the last eight games in this series played in Charlottesville, and seven of the last nine overall have failed to reach the total.
