Texas Longhorns: Mack Brown and the Longhorns (6-2 straight-up, 2-5 against the spread) survived a close call at Kansas last week for a 21-17 victory in a game they were favored by 18. Case McCoy came off the bench to relieve starting quarterback David Ash and directed Texas on the winning TD drive with a short scoring pass with just 12 seconds left in the game. It was the fourth consecutive setback at the window for 'Horns backers and the final score never came close to the 59½-point total to snap a string of 5-straight "overs" in Texas games. Despite another 2-INT performance by Ash, he is expected to start against the Red Raiders. Texas has won eight of the last nine meetings with Tech, but covered just five of those games.
Texas Tech Red Raiders: Tommy Tuberville and the Red Raiders (6-2 SU & ATS) will be looking to bounce back from a 55-24 defeat at Kansas State where they turned it over three times. Collin Klein and the Wildcats tallied 28 unanswered points during a 12-minute span in the third and fourth quarters to easily cover the 7-point spread. Texas Tech QB Seth Doege had two more TD passes in the loss, bringing his season total to a nation-leading 30. The Red Raiders are ranked 11th in the country in total offense (507 ypg) and will look to take advantage of a Longhorns defense that is 99th allowing close to 450 ypg. Tech surrendered 50+ points for the second consecutive week, the third "over" in four games. Eight of the last 10 in this series, and four of the last five played at Jones Stadium, have jumped the total.
