A Southeastern Conference team has won the last six national championships in college football, so it is no surprise that four of the top eight teams in the eighth annual Don Best Linemakers Poll are from the SEC. In fact, 10 of the top 30 teams in the Linemakers Poll are SEC schools thanks in part to the addition of Missouri and Texas A&M, who joined the conference this year from the Big 12.
The Don Best Linemakers Poll is compiled by oddsmaker Kenny White and includes input from LVH’s Jay Kornegay, the Golden Nugget’s Aaron Kessler and The Linemakers to rank teams based on power ratings in accordance with the Las Vegas lines. It is much different than other polls that collect votes from members of the media and coaches and strives to be the most accurate measurement of team performance over the course of the season.
The biggest disparities between the Associated Press Top 25 college football poll and the Linemakers Poll involve SEC schools Missouri, Texas A&M, Tennessee and Florida, which are all ranked significantly lowered by the AP. The linemakers obviously have a lot more respect for the nation’s best conference and have rated a majority of the SEC teams accordingly in their poll.
