Pitt Panthers: Coach Jamie Dixon and the Panthers (4-0 straight-up, 2-1 against the spread) head to Madison Square Garden for the NIT Season Tip-Off following a thrilling 72-62 overtime win over Oakland on Saturday. Pitt was down by as many as 18 points before rallying behind junior forward J.J. Moore, who came off the bench to fashion a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds). The Panthers are coming off a 22-17 season in which they beat Washington State for the CBI Tournament title, and Dixon is working several new faces into this year's group. Steven Adams is the big frosh in the middle of the paint along with senior Dante Taylor. Dixon & Company also have Tray Woodall back at point guard to help guide the offense. Pitt is shooting over 52 percent as a team through the first four games but just 30 percent from beyond the arc.
Michigan Wolverines: Expectations are high in Ann Arbor for Coach John Beilein and the Wolverines (3-0 SU, 2-0 ATS) in what promises to be a very competitive Big Ten race. Michigan is ranked fourth in both of the latest polls, but that puts them third in the conference behind top-ranked Indiana and No. 3 Ohio State. A lot of offense was subtracted from last year's team, but the Wolverines did retain their top two scorers in Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr., and that pair has picked right up where they left off with 18.3 and 17.3 points per game, respectively. Beilein also has one of the top incoming freshmen in Glenn Robinson III, who has started his collegiate career well, averaging 13.3 points and seven rebounds per contest. Two more freshmen who figure into the mix are 6-foot-6 guard Nik Stauskas along with 6-10 center Mitch McGary, who has played just 40 minutes combined in the three games so far but has already hauled in 23 boards.
