Michigan State Spartans: Coach Tom Izzo's Spartans (0-1 straight-up and against the spread) fell in their season opener last Friday, as UConn scored a 66-62 win as an 8-point underdog in the Armed Forces Classic played in Germany. The Spartans fell behind by double digits early and were never able to catch up to the running Huskies. Branden Dawson stuffed the stat sheet for MSU with 15 points, 10 boards and five steals.

Kansas Jayhawks: Jeff Withey paced KU (1-0 SU, 0-1 ATS) to a 74-55 victory in Friday's matchup with Southeast Missouri State, a preliminary contest in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic. The senior center led the Jayhawks with 17 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks while freshman Perry Ellis added 15 points in his Kansas debut. Jayhawks backers failed to cash on the 19½-point spread. Michigan State leads this all-time series 5-4, including a 67-62 win in the last meeting which came in the Sweet 16 round of the 2009 NCAAs.

Duke Blue Devils: Coach Mike Krzyzewski and the Blue Devils (1-0 SU, 0-1 ATS) just missed a cover in their 74-55 season-opening win vs. Georgia State last Friday. Duke closed as 19½-point chalk and was paced by three scorers in double digits, including Mason Plumlee, who tallied a team-high 19 points to go with 14 rebounds. The Blue Devils are 8-11 all-time vs. UK (4-1 since Coach K's arrival in Durham), and eked out a 95-92 home win in overtime the last time the two squads met in 2001.

Kentucky Wildcats: This will be the second straight ACC opponent for the 'Cats (1-0 SU, 0-1 ATS), who just got past Maryland last Friday in the Barclays Center Classic, 72-69. Kyle Wiltjer led UK with 19 points, but it was junior Jarrod Polson's 10 points off the bench that secured the outright victory in a contest that closed with the Wildcats laying 10 points. Touted freshman Nerlens Noel grabbed nine boards and blocked three shots for Kentucky in his collegiate debut.
