Final Four 'props'

Duke's Jon Scheyer is the favorite to take home the MVP at 4/1.

It won’t come anywhere close to matching the number of Super Bowl propositions. But there are some ‘prop’ wagers on the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament.

There is nothing yet on how long it will take to sing the national anthem, but there are some off-the-wall type ‘props’ out there courtesy of Bodog.com.

Pay attention and listen to the announcers if choosing some of these ‘props.’ Here are two of them:

How many times will the announcers refer to West Virginia coach Bob Huggins as “Huggy Bear” during the broadcast of the West Virginia-Duke game? The ‘over/under’ is 1 ½ with the ‘over’ the favorite at minus 135.

How many times will the announcers mention that Kalin Lucas, who is out with a ruptured Achilles tendon, was the 2009 Big Ten Player of the Year during the broadcast of the Michigan State-Butler matchup? The ‘over/under’ is one with ‘over’ at minus 135.

On a more conventional basis, Bodog has other ‘props’ such as the player to score the most points during the Final Four Da’Sean Butler of West Virginia is favored at 3/1 followed by three Duke players - Jon Scheyer (4/1), Kyle Singler (4/1) and Nolan Smith (5/1).

Gordon Hayward of Butler is next at 6/1. Hayward is followed by Michigan State’s Raymar Morgan at 8/1, Shelvin Mack of Butler at 10/1, Michigan State’s Durrell Summers at 12/1 and Kevin Jones of West Virginia at 12/1.

Scheyer has the shortest odds of being named the tournament Most Valuable Player at 4/1. Singler and Butler are next, each at 5/1. Hayward, Morgan and Smith follow at 7/1. Jones and his West Virginia teammate Devin Ebanks are next at 10/1 along with Summers and Mack.

Matt Howard of Butler is 12/1, followed by Michigan State’s Korie Lucious at 15/1.

At TheGreek.com, there are 15 players listed with MVP odds plus the ‘field’ at 15/1. Butler is the odds-on-choice to win MVP honors at plus 350. West Virginia guard Joe Mazzulla, the star of the Mountaineers’ upset of Kentucky in the East Regional, is 18/1. Two other long shots are Duke’s Lance Thomas at 20/1 and Michigan State’s Chris Allen also at 20/1.

There are, of course, team ‘props.’

Among the various team ‘props’ at Bodog are matchups for the championship game. A Duke-Butler matchup is 2/1. Duke versus Michigan State is 11/5. West Virginia taking on Butler is 13/4 and West Virginia meeting Michigan State is 7/2.

Another ‘prop’ is wagering on the outcome of the title game with all the various combinations. Duke beating Butler, for instance, is 7/2 with the Blue Devils defeating Michigan State listed at 15/4.

West Virginia is 21/4 to knock off Butler and the Mountaineers are 11/2 to beat Michigan State.

Butler is 15/2 to beat Duke and 9/1 to down West Virginia.

Michigan State is 8/1 to defeat Duke and 11/1 to beat West Virginia if the two should meet in the championship game.

Another ‘prop’ is the team that will score the most points during the Final Four round. Butler is 11/4, Duke is 2/1, Michigan State is 3/1 and West Virginia is 5/2.

Conversely there’s a ‘prop’ on which team will score the fewest points. Butler is 9/4, Duke is 3/1, Michigan State is 2/1 and West Virginia is 5/2.

Just like the Super Bowl, there’s a ‘yes/no’ overtime 'prop.' The ‘yes’ is plus 300 on either of the Final Four games and the championship game going into overtime. The ‘no’ is minus 450.
