Brooklyn Nets: Tuesday's battle at LA's Staples Center is the middle contest of a three-game western swing for the Nets (6-2 straight-up, 4-3-1 against the spread), who are just a game behind the Knicks for the Atlantic Division lead. Brooklyn got the trip started with a 99-90 win on Sunday at Sacramento where the Nets were laying 3½ points. Andray Blatche led Brooklyn with 22 points and was one of six players in double figures as the Nets picked up their fifth consecutive win. Deron Williams leads the team with 18 points per game while Kris Humphries is the top rebounder (9.8 rpg). Williams, who had 10 assists for Brooklyn in Sunday's victory, is listed as probable for Tuesday's game after suffering a minor arm injury (click to check updated NBA injury report). Forward Gerald Wallace returned to the floor for the first time since the season opener when he went down with an ankle injury, and he is also probable for Tuesday.
Los Angeles Lakers: Following a 1-4 start that prompted the firing of head coach Mike Brown, LA (5-5 SU and ATS) takes aim at their fifth win in six games since the regime change with new head coach Mike D'Antoni hoping to make his debut. Tuesday's tilt concludes a five-game homestand for the Lakers, who begins a three-game road trip on Wednesday in Sacramento. They have won and covered their last two contests after popping the Rockets on Sunday, 119-108. Kobe Bryant posted a triple-double (22 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists), and Dwight Howard scored a game-high 28 for an LA team that was giving up seven at the NBA betting window. Point guard Steve Nash has missed the last eight games with a shin injury, and there is no definite timetable for his return to the floor. The Lakers have won the last eight meetings with the Nets who have covered the last three, and the most recent four clashes have stayed "under" the total.
