Curry superb again as Davidson stuns Georgetown
RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Stephen Curry was at it again Sunday.
Curry scored 25 of his 30 points in the second half to lead 10th-seeded Davidson to a 74-70 comeback victory over No. 2 Georgetown in the second round of the NCAA Tournament's Midwest Regional.
Jason Richards added 20 points and five assists for the Wildcats (27-6), who have not lost in 2008 - winning 24 in a row.
The Hoyas took a 38-27 advantage into the break and led by as many as 17 points early in the second half. But then Curry took over.
The sophomore guard ignited a 14-4 run with a four-point play, which cut the deficit to 52-50.
After Jessie Sapp's 3-pointer extended Georgetown's advantage to 57-52, Curry answered immediately with a 3-pointer of his own. Curry's layup gave Davidson its first lead since early in the first half at 59-58 with 4:40 remaining.
Curry, who scored 40 points in the first-round win over Gonzaga, did not stop there. He knocked down a spectacular driving layup and a 3-pointer on consecutive possessions to give the Wildcats a 65-60 advantage with 2:56 left.
Curry, who shot 8-of-22 from the floor, finished his afternoon by connecting on 5-of-6 free throws in the final 23 seconds to secure Davidson's "Sweet 16" bid.
The Wildcats will face third-seeded Wisconsin in the next round.
Battling through foul trouble most of the contest, Hoyas center Roy Hibbert managed just six points before fouling out with less than a minute to play.
Sapp scored 14 points and Jonathan Wallace added 12 points for Georgetown (27-6), which committed 20 turnovers to Davidson's four.
