Louisville's 3-point barrage buries Boise State
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (Ticker) -- Louisville showed off a side that few opponents want to see in its first-round NCAA Tournament game.
Earl Clark scored 15 points and the third-seeded Cardinals buried 12 3-pointers to roll to a 79-61 victory over 14th seed Boise State in the East Regional on Friday night.
Juan Palacios scored 13 points on 5-of-5 shooting and Jerry Smith nailed four 3-pointers en route to tallying 12 points as Louisville (25-8) snapped a two-game losing streak.
The Cardinals advanced to a second-round meeting with No. 6 seed Oklahoma on Sunday.
Louisville's calling card has been offensive balance and a tenacious defense which ranked sixth nationally, holding opponents to 38 percent shooting.
Against the Broncos (25-9), the Cardinals showed off some dazzling firepower from long range, hitting 8-of-15 shots from the arc to build a 44-31 halftime lead.
Andre McGee then buried back-to-back 3-pointers early in the second half to extend the margin to 54-35 with 16:51 to play.
Boise State never got the lead under double digits thereafter against Louisville, which finished 12-of-24 from the arc and shot 56 percent overall (29-of-52).
