North Carolina looks to utilize depth vs. Arkansas

RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) - Top-seeded North Carolina used a team effort to advance past the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The No. 1 overall seed North Carolina looks to utilize its deep lineup once again on Sunday when it faces ninth-seeded Arkansas in a second-round matchup out of the East Regional.

Tyler Hansbrough and Ty Lawson each scored 21 points to lead five players in double figures, powering the Tar Heels (33-2) to a 113-74 drubbing against No. 16 Mount Saint Mary's on Friday.

Fourteen of North Carolina's 15 players scored at least two points against Mount Saint Mary's, which trailed, 60-41, at halftime after playing into the Tar Heels' hands by forcing an up-tempo pace in the first half.

"It's very helpful (to have a deep lineup)," sophomore guard Wayne Ellington said. "Especially around this time of the year when you got a lot of games that are close to each other, you got to be deep. In order to win this tournament you got to have guys that come off the bench and contribute for you."

Arkansas (23-11) snapped a five-game losing streak in NCAA Tournament games with a 86-72 victory over No. 8 Indiana on Friday. Sonny Weems scored a career-high 31 points on 12-of-14 shooting from the field.

The win was the Razorbacks first in the Tournament since a first-round victory over Siena in 1999.
